The Celso Espejo Rondalla
The Celso Espejo Rondalla is composed of two generations of outstanding rondalla players. The senior members are professionals in their chosen fields while the younger ones are high school and college students who were once champions in the 2001 National Music Competitions for the Young Artists (NAMCYA).
The group was one of the performers in Cuerdas nin Cagabsan: The 1st International Rondalla Festival in Naga and Legazpi Cities, where they made an outstanding performance of light classics and contemporary Filipino compositions for rondalla. The group has released its first Commercial CD. The Celso Espejo Rondalla: Foreign and Light Classics contains music from the masters of classical music and as well as from contemporary composers.
Some of the tracks included in the album are: The Flight of The Bumblebee (NR Korsakov), Pizzicato Polka (J Strauss Jr.) William Tell Overture (G Rossini) among others. The Celso Espejo Rondalla was one of the favorites in Cuerdas Sa Panaghiusa: The 2nd International Rondalla Festival. Aside from the Festival in Dumaguete, the group also performed in the post-festival concerts held in Abelardo Hall, UP Diliman; Muñoz, Nueva Ecija; and in Baguio City with the Three Plucked Strings of Israel and Quartette Phoenix of Russia. The group was named after Maestro Celso Espejo, the group's conductor and one of the pillars of the Philippine Rondalla.
